How to Cut a Clip from a Teams Recording
Download a Teams recording when you have permission, choose the relevant range, and create a video file for the people who need it.

Get the recording through Teams or Microsoft 365
Find the recording in the meeting chat, calendar recap, channel, OneDrive, or SharePoint location used by your organization. Microsoft's current support page says only the meeting organizer can download a meeting recording. Ask the organizer when the Download option is unavailable.
VideoMultiCut cannot open a Teams link or work around a disabled download. Start with an MP4 file you are authorized to use and store it according to your organization's recording policy.
Select the part that answers one question
Make a range around the decision, explanation, or demonstration. Include the question when the answer depends on it. For a screen demonstration, start before the presenter opens the relevant control and end after the result is visible.
Name the range with the meeting date and subject, such as 2026-09-30-budget-approval. Avoid attendee names when the subject gives recipients enough information.
Keep captions and transcripts as separate assets
Microsoft explains that captions shown during playback are not captured in recording downloads. A VideoMultiCut export cannot add those captions back. Download or prepare transcript material separately when the clip must be accessible without sound.
The new file also loses Teams permissions, expiration rules, chapters, and viewer context. Apply suitable access controls wherever you upload or send it.
Use a timestamp when a new file is unnecessary
A timestamp or shared recording link is often better for colleagues who already have access and need the surrounding meeting. Create a separate file when the moment must be attached, used in another editor, or shared through a channel that cannot open the Teams recording.
Export one short clip and verify it before preparing the remaining files. Keep the original Teams download until the new clip has been reviewed and delivered to the intended audience.
