# How to Cut Part of a Video from Google Drive

Download a Google Drive video you can access, select the required moments locally, and create new files without changing the original.

## Download the source with the owner's permission

Use Google Drive's Download command to save the video to your device. Google allows owners to disable download, print, and copy for viewers and commenters. Ask the owner for a downloadable copy when that setting is in place.

VideoMultiCut does not import a Drive URL, request access, or bypass a download restriction. It opens the local file you choose after the authorized download is complete.

## Create a new file for each recipient task

Mark the parts that need to leave the long recording. A research review might become participant-instruction, test-run, and observed-problem. A client presentation might become introduction, feature-demo, and next-steps.

Name the clips for the recipient's task and remove private identifiers from filenames. Review the picture and sound for private information that appears inside the selected range.

## Leave the Drive original unchanged

VideoMultiCut creates downloads on your device. It does not edit, replace, or version the file stored in Drive. Upload a new clip only when you intend to create another Drive item and have permission to do so.

Keep a source timestamp in the file description or a separate note if collaborators may need the wider recording. The exported clip's timeline starts at zero.

## Apply sharing controls to the new clips

A restricted source does not automatically make its downloaded excerpt restricted. If you upload the clip to Drive again, set the right audience and verify the link as the recipient would see it.

Start with one short range and open the result. Once the file works, export the rest of the approved moments and place them in the intended folder.
