# How to Cut Clips from an OBS Recording

Open an OBS recording, select the moments you want to keep, and export named clips without building a full editing project.

## Make sure the recording opens first

Play the OBS recording in a normal media player, then choose it in VideoMultiCut. OBS can record into several containers and codec combinations. A file that exists on disk may still need to be remuxed or converted before a browser can preview it.

OBS includes a Remux Recordings command for compatible recordings. Remuxing changes the container without recreating the video data. If the browser still cannot open the result, keep the original and create a compatible copy with a media conversion tool.

## Use event names instead of clip numbers

Skim the recording and note each useful moment. For a game session, names such as first-boss-attempt, route-explanation, and final-win say what the files contain. Add the ranges and rename them before exporting.

Keep a few seconds before the event when viewers need to see the setup. A successful move without the decision that led to it may be hard to understand. End after the reaction or result has finished.

## Use Replay Buffer next time when the moment is predictable

OBS Replay Buffer can save the recent past when you press a hotkey. That is useful when you know during recording that a moment should become a clip. Cutting the completed recording is useful when you discover the moments later or want several ranges from one file.

VideoMultiCut does not read OBS markers, scenes, replay metadata, or separate audio tracks as an editing project. It works from the video file the browser can open and maps the primary video with optional audio into each export.

## Test the result before processing a long session

Export one short clip and open it. Check picture, game sound, microphone sound, and sync. A long high-resolution recording can require substantial browser memory and processing time.

If a short export fails, solve that problem before marking the rest of the session. If only a large ZIP fails, export individual clips instead. Keep the source recording until every file you need has been checked.
